Fredericksburg TX Eclipse

visitor info

Despite cloudy conditions, residents and visitors enjoyed the Great North American Eclipse in Fredericksburg on Monday, April 8. The eclipse began at 12:15 p.m. and ended at 2:56 p.m. with totality running from 1:32-1:37 p.m.

The public viewing area at Marktplatz had an estimated 3,000 viewers. Official numbers will be available later.

TV News crews from San Antonio, Houston, Harlingen, Dallas and Australia were providing live coverage of the event, along with local media and journalists/photographers from Reuters, Associated Press and San Antonio Express News. Links to media clips below:

Intermittent cloud coverage gave way to glimpses of the sun throughout the phases of coverage for viewers. Once in the totality phase, the Marktplatz crowd cheered in excitement.

The public viewing area at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park welcomed just under 1,200 cars. Guests and visitors were in attendance from 46 states and 23 countries, including Columbia, Japan and Ethiopia.  It opened at 5:30 a.m. and closed due to reaching capacity at 12:40 p.m.

Traffic congestion was minor as crowds left the area and no major accidents were reported.
